Like it or not, Lou Reed followed his own path and made albums that were difficult and hard to get into or get. But in his 40 years as a solo artists it has been one great ride. Not everything worked mind you but regardless, it was unique. He let the music do the talking more or less.

I know it's probably too soon, but a C for Metal Machine Music? F from me. F minus. Maybe even a G if I can figure out how to go that low. Lester Bangs still owes me for that one!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Lou and Lester are having a great time talkin' over METAL MACHINE MUSIC, wherever they're at.... Thanx for the list, Crabby -- now I have some idea where to start....
ReplyDeleteWell 2000 Man, I really did give a generous grade on Metal Machine Music, for historical value there wasn't nothing quite like that before and after. Worthy of getting rid of unwanted guests. I had it on vinyl, played it once and traded it in with a few other LPs for that Led Zeppelin box set years ago. You're welcome to grade a Z minus ;-)
ReplyDeleteLou seemed to be proud of that album. He also raved about the 19 minute Like A Possum from Esctasy, to which I got through about 10 minutes and gave up.
TAD, I suggest New Sensations first, then Rock And Roll Animal, Walk On The Wild Side-The Best Of Lou Reed is a nice sampler but there's plenty other best ofs that I didn't post. Plenty of examples on You Tube await your ears! Cheers!
